The Girl with the Magic Hands
Here we meet Chidera, a young Nigerian girl who is described as having the saddest face you can imagine. She is poor, her father wishes she were a boy. Chidera is at an all-time low when a chance encounter with a group of mysterious women and the arrival of a magical pen leads to life-changing realizations.
Ask your child to describe how Chidera changed from the beginning to the end of the story.
The women drew a leaf on Chidera. Have your child think of a symbol that they think represents them, and draw it.
In chapter one, there are descriptions of the three women. Using playdough, create a model of one of the women described.
